Global Health Partnerships (formerly THET) is being welcomed by Moorfields Eye Hospital to celebrate the internationally trained staff whose skills and experience strengthen the NHS and improve healthcare around the world.
Today, Moorfields hosts an Experts in Our Midst event – part of the national programme developed by Global Health Partnerships to recognise the impact of staff who bring global experience into the UK health system. The programme highlights how international expertise and cross-border partnerships make the NHS stronger, more inclusive and more innovative.
Global experience, local impact
Run in collaboration with Moorfields’ BeMoor Network, the event will feature reflections from senior leaders including Ade Adetukasi, Associate Director of Employee Experience and Sheila Adam, Chief Nurse and Director of Allied Professionals. It will also spotlight Moorfields’ international partnerships, including collaborations in Uganda, where clinicians are working with local teams to expand access to eye care and train the next generation of ophthalmologists.
Louise McGrath, Deputy CEO of Global Health Partnerships, said:
“International experience is a bridge – connecting people, communities and health systems. The NHS gains so much from colleagues who bring expertise from overseas. Experts in Our Midst celebrates that knowledge and shows how global partnerships make healthcare better for everyone.”
Ade Adetukasi, Associate Director of Employee Experience at Moorfields Eye Hospital, said:
“Our international colleagues bring energy, expertise and a truly global outlook. Their contributions make Moorfields stronger, more inclusive and better equipped to change lives.”
Among those speaking is Primrose Magala, Senior Ophthalmic Nurse Practitioner at Moorfields and founder of Eye Health Africa, whose work links hospitals in the UK and Uganda.
“The NHS isn’t just teaching the world – it’s learning from it too,” said Primrose. “By sharing ideas across borders, we discover better ways to care for patients everywhere.”
Recognising global talent
Experts in Our Midst events are being rolled out across NHS trusts to celebrate international staff and the partnerships they champion in their countries of heritage. Through storytelling, leadership engagement and shared learning, the programme highlights how global expertise is shaping the future of UK healthcare.
Experts in Our Midst makes a simple point: valuing global talent isn’t just right – it’s essential to the health system’s success at home and abroad.
